GeoGraffiti was founded by a team of experienced and passionate technologists and privately funded by a dedicated group of angel investors. We built GeoGraffiti for public use and enjoyment, with a focus on enabling the ever-growing community of mobile phone users to openly express, share, aggregate, and retrieve local opinions in voice form. GeoGraffiti is our response to the obvious need to unite and share the collective local knowledge contained within our estimated 200 million U.S. mobile phone subscriber base, and by doing so satisfy some of today's “on-the-go” informational needs.

GeoGraffiti's mission is to organize the mobile phone community's “wisdom of crowds” intelligence, and to facilitate the exchange of that location-specific intelligence by providing a voice-driven platform that is accessible from any phone and any place.

Think of GeoGraffiti as a verbal message board for sharing and retrieving Voice Mark™ messages while you are out and about visiting different places throughout the day.  A Voice Mark™ is a short phone message that shares information (e.g. opinions, tips, warnings, advice) about a place, an event, a topic, or really anything else you care to share. The name GeoGraffiti is a combination of the prefix “Geo”, meaning earth or land, representing our location-specific focus; while “Graffiti” represents the expressive and informative content marking those locations.

One of our goals is to make GeoGraffiti accessible to the entire mobile phone community, regardless of phone type or carrier network, and in doing so, encourage ubiquitous collaboration within the mobile phone community. Therefore, we designed GeoGraffiti to be phone and carrier agnostic, and to function more like a public voice mail system accessible via a standard phone call...no fancy phones required. Another goal was to encourage personable and authentic content ... and what better means than with the actual voices of you the people!

The GeoGraffiti service is 100% community-driven and the content is 100% user-generated Voice Mark™ messages. We hope the GeoGraffiti voice platform will enable community contributions similar to the likes of Wikipedia, with community interaction via responses similar to the likes of Yahoo!Answers, and with a community ranking system similar to the likes of Digg.  If you like what we are doing (or don't, but have a good suggestion), please contact us.
